As we continue the tradition of the Phipps Family Reunion, we are more than excited to announce some details having to do with the planning of the Phipps 100th Reunion.
LOCATION OF ACTIVITIES AND AREA MOTELS
Included below is an area map showing the location of the events relative to Cameron. The motels shown on the map in Cameron and Hearne are the most prominent and newest in the area but there are others if you care to look around.

ICE CREAM SUPPER AND OKRA FRYING
The Reunion will officially kick-off at 6 PM (yes, come early) on Friday July 19 and last late into the evening. On Friday, the activities will begin at the New Providence Baptist Church located at the intersection of FM 979 and FM 485 toward Maysfield. For those of you using a GPS, the physical address is 3949 E. FM 485, Cameron, TX. We hope everyone will come early for fellowship “under the trees” before we dig into the ice cream at 7 PM.
Following the Ice Cream Supper, we will relocate about 1.5 miles from the church to Brian and Nancy (Phipps) Scheler’s farm house (Willie and Francis’ old home place) and begin frying at least 50 pounds of okra. This tradition began many years ago after the Ice Cream Supper at Barbara Patzke’s. For many years it was hard to find more than a few pounds of okra in the immediate area. When a steady large supply was found we began to have larger gatherings at the houses of Kay Weems Daniels and the Schelers.
REUNION FEAST
The Reunion Feast will officially begin with registration tables being set up at the Little River Baptist Church (about 3.3 miles from New Providence Baptist Church) around 10:30 AM July 20.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A CHANGE IN LOCATION FROM PREVIOUS YEARS WHERE WE WILL HAVE LOTS OF ELBOW ROOM AND LOTS OF AIR CONDITIONING!
We encourage everyone to come early to receive their T-shirts, sign the registers and begin visitation. Feel free to bring outdoor or indoor games to share. Lee has a set of horseshoes and willing to accept all challengers!
Around Noon we will begin the welcoming, a prayer and the Reunion Feast.
We recognize that some usually leave early and we hope this is not the case this special year. Group pictures are especially important. We plan to recreate the 1919 family photo by having 2nd cousins in the same positions as their Grandparents. Then add the 3rd cousins then add the 4th cousins then add everyone. To manage this before anyone leaves, our photographer has suggested that as soon as we finish the main meal we move outside for the pictures then return for the dessert.
We want to encourage you to bring photo albums, loose pictures, books, souvenirs etc to place on a “viewing” table for all to enjoy.
BE SURE TO BRING CHAIRS TO ALL EVENTS
Paper plates, cups, knives, forks, spoons, tea and water furnished.
